One to one fiddle tuition.

I’m an experienced teacher of Scottish traditional fiddle, with many years of teaching and performing behind me. I offer tuition at my home in Birnam available in half hour and full hour sessions, depending on age and playing ability. I work with children and adults of all ages, from absolute beginners to more advanced players who would like to refine their skills and repertoire, or explore the style of traditional music.

Lessons are adapted to suit individual learning styles and pace, ensuring the learning process is productive and enjoyable.

I also offer cello lessons suitable for absolute beginner to intermediate levels.

Adult fiddle group classes

Each Thursday I run two evening classes, one for beginner and one for everyone else. These work on a come along when you can basis to fit in with busy lifestyles. They are currently based in Birnam Arts centre and run during term-time.

7pm - beginner class. Suitable for those who can play a little. We focus on learning the basics of your instrument, technique, reading music, learning to play by ear, and most importantly a selection of easy trad tunes. Cost is £10 per class.

8pm - Suitable for those who can already play a few tunes, this class is for players of varying ability. Taught by ear, we break tunes into short sections and build these together until everyone knows the tune. Don’t worry if you have no experience of this style of learning, it’s a new skill to work on, but I provide sheet music and recordings for you to take home. Ideal for anyone who would like to develop a repertoire of traditional music, technique and playing in a group environment. You can follow the class by joining in with one of the local sessions in Dunkeld for the chance to play newly learned tunes. Cost is £10 per class.

If you’d like to come along get in touch. You will need your own instrument to take part.

Dunkeld & Birnam Traditional Youth Music Group

I am one of the founding members of DB Trad Group, which was formed to provide young persons in the area with free access to learning Scottish traditional music and playing in a group environment. This is a fully funded project for anyone aged P5 - S6, to learn fiddle, accordion, guitar or whistle in group classes. We also have mixed instrument junior and senior bands providing the opportunity to play with others and perform at regular concerts, such as The Neil Gow Festival, throughout the year.

This runs on Mondays during term time and is based at Birnam Arts. For more info get in touch with dbtradgroup@gmail.com.
